GoToMyPC Installation Process


The installation process of GotoMyPC is easy and straightforward. Users must download the setup file to their computer. After the setup file is downloaded to the computer, you must click on it and start the installation process. During the setup process, your computer must be switched on. If you put it in hibernation mode, the setup process will be halted. The entire setup process lasts for 2 minutes. After the setup is completed, you must login to your GotoMyPC account. In your account, you will see a Connect button. You should click on the Connect button to start the connection process. After your computer is connected with GotoMyPC, a new window that shows your desktop will pop up on the computer screen.

GoToMyPC Basic System Requirements


GotoMyPC has basic system requirements including Internet Explorer, Windows, Pentium 1GHz CPU and DSL modem. It can run on Mac computer as well. It supports computer that are assigned with dynamic IP address.

Four Components of GoToMyPC


GoToMyPC has four components including host computer, browser, broker, and communication server. The host computer refers to the desktop computer. The host computer registers and authenticates the session with Citrix Online. The browser is the web browser that you use to login to your GotoMyPC account. By logging into your account, you are sending a secure socket layer authenticated request to the broker.

The broker is responsible for accepting connection requests so that it can map them to the right computers. The broker will hand over the session to the communication server after it found a match. After that, the Universal Viewer will appear on the screen. The Universal Viewer is powered by a Java Virtual Machine. If you want to use the Universal Viewer, your computer must have a Java enabled browser. The communication server is an encrypted system that connects the client to the GotoMyPC session.

GoToMyPC Security


GotoMyPC protects access to your account through a variety of ways including nested passwords, strong passwords, limited login attempts, end to end authentication, blank host computer screen lock keyboard and mouse and one time password. In order to login to your account, you must login to the website by using the email address and password. After that, you will be required to select a computer that you are going to access and enter a second password. The second password is an access code. The access code is not kept in the database of the Citrix Online servers for your security concern.

When you create your account, you will be required to enter at least 8 characters for the password. The password must consist of letters and numbers. GotoMyPC uses the MD5 methodology to perform the end to end authentication. Users can blank the screen of the host computer when they are connected to GotoMyPC. When your remote computer is connected, you can lock the keyboard and mouse of the host computer. Users can protect their privacy by creating a list of one time passwords.

GoToMyPC Technical Features


GotoMyPC initial communications are done through the TCP connection that is conducted through the Citrix Online server. Since the outgoing connections will not cause danger, majority of the firewalls will allow them. It will not affect the internet bandwidth. This is because it used the unused incoming connections that are available on your bandwidth. GotoMyPC can be scaled in a large range of network environment.

The Pocket View allows you to access your desktop from a wireless device. Examples of wireless device that can be connected through PocketView are Pocket PC, and Windows CE wireless device. Pocket View is immediately installed on your computer after you have setup GotoMyPC. You must download the loader program so that you can have access to your desktop computer from a wireless device. The loader program is only 50KB and takes a minimal time to download to the computer.

GoToMyPC Free Trial


The free trial allows you to have access for up to 30 days. To sign up for the free trial, you have to complete the Create Your GotoMyPC Account form including name, working email address and etc. Before signing up for the free trial, you must agree to the terms of service of the GoToMyPC account. You are required to enter your credit card information in the free trial form. If you cancel it within the free trial period, you will not be charged.
